Aside from that it's usually more pleasant to learn from/with other people than just from books, I must admit I learned a whole lot of stuff just this way (of course walking, speaking and almost everything during my childhood, but for example my first encounter with calculus was via a knowledgeable person (i.e. my grandma) as well. So perhaps it has something into it.
