I have received votes by mail. In the Czech Republic there are going to be elections on 2nd and 3rd June. However I'm not going to participate.
When I was younger, I was looking forward to the moment I'd be able to vote. I'm no longer.
I felt it was a possibility to change the world in the way I want it to have and to help solve its problems. However should I? When I'm trying to help my friends with their problems, or to solve my own, I have enough troubles with that. Usually I don't see a clear solution and many times the solution I invent is not good.
Now that's when it concerns people I know. If I have problems with solving problems with things I know very well, what are my odds to solve the problems of people I don't know? I fear that very low. Additionally I don't think that when there are 10 millions of people, the satisfying solution may be different for everyone.
And if I see the voting as the choice of a leader - what if I don't want one? What if I want to behave according to my conscience? Well, I'll behave according to it no matter which leader will be elected - but then there's no point for me in electing leader, if I'm not going to follow them anyway.
Here I portrayed my opinion on voting. It may be a bit confusing. If you are interested in an more elaborate article about nonvoting, try WHY I WOULD NOT VOTE by Wendy McElroy.
