Tick

A tick is an animal of the class Arachnida, order Acarina. The ticks are the second most important diseases vector, after the mosquitoes. They wait at the edges of the grass and reacts to the heat of other organisms. There are over 800 species of ticks, but in the Czech Republic, the most prevalent is Ixodes Ricinus.
There are three stages: the larva, the nymph and the adult. The whole life cycle is two to four years long and in the end the female lays thousands of eggs and dies.
a tickIn the Czech Republic, the most prevalent diseases are the Lyme disease and the encephalitis. While the Lyme disease can be contracted only after at least a day of feeding (the bacteria must multiply itself), the encephalitis can be contracted almost immediately (but usually not sooner than after 2 hours). However you can get vaccinated against the encephalitis.
