...but not my post, probably.
Just that we learned today in the literature about the beatniks. As usual, they should have been shocking in their age. They probably really were. And the same way about a lot of movements before.
And we just yawn...They shock us no more. But the same with the current shocking movements. Sure, there's a lot of people "being shocked", even today, in here. But not even the majority of the older generations (and does it really matter?). Not to talk about the younger ones.
What's it about? Are we more and more ignorant - or more and more tolerant??? When we come across a weird movement, we (at most) laugh about it, and should some of us criticize it, then purely on the practical ground and without any shock. Sure, not everyone I know is like that - but a considerable amount of people, very considerable...and not only those "alternative ones" (rather it seems to me that those claiming to be alternative are the most "mainstream", in the bad sense of the word).
For me, it's just fine, I like this kind of openness. But still, I can't help wondering. Is our age really an age of "open-mindedness". Or is there just another shocking stuff, lurking for the right time to be released?
