Jainism

Jainism is a religion and philosophy originating in India. It was formulated in more or less the same time as Buddhism. Nevertheless, it hasn't achieved such an acclaim, though it's been quite influential in India. By now it's considered to have about 4 millions adherents.
It's in some ways similar (though the interpretation may vary) to other Indian religions - Buddhism and Hinduism. They strive to achieve freedom from the cycle of rebirths and they believe also in cyclic and eternal history.
The religion is perhaps best known for its admiration to all living. Vegetarianism is a key concept and, if possible, even more - veganism, not eating root vegetables (for not killing the plant).
Every human (compare with Hinduism, Buddhism) is capable of achieving moksha, through the way of asceticism.
There are two major branches - Shvetambars (wearing white clothes, believing in the possibility of women attaining moksha) and Digambars (masculinist, and consider clothes as unnecessary possession).
