Today, Bzochi, Ann, Katka, me, Vera and Kriza went to Symposion. We'd went there last year as well and we liked it, so this time again.
It takes place in Jan Kepler Gymnazium (should be called Tycho de Brahe Gymnazium ;-) It's organized by the school students. The school itself is very nice, but somewhat perfectionist, to my taste too well-ordered. Dunno, my school just feels more lively to me.
This year had the theme "Dream and illusion".
The beginning was a debate. I came late, so I had a lot of troubles finding place to sit. The topics were centered around religion - dreams in the religion, the veracity of religions, mysticism... The people discussing were five religion representatives - one from orthodox, evangelic and catholic christianity, from judaism and from buddhism. I think it'd have been better if there had been also someone secular...never mind.
Next came the lectures. Every time (three times) there was choice from three lectures.
First was most informative to me. It was about sleep disorders but I got to know a lot of information about sleep itself, including the newest findings. Bzochi and Vera went to a lecture about Shakespeare, they were delighted.
Second was a lecture on psychoanalysis. Some stories were interesting or funny but overall it wasn't that informative. Also, I'm kind of a skeptic. This kind of therapy may work, but probably not because of the perceived mechanisms, but rather because mere interaction with the patient - IMO.
The third should have been about the border between reality and dreams, but in fact it was mostly about how people perceive art... Kriza, Ann and Katka went to a lecture about movie illusions...and were disillusioned :-) Vera and Bzochi went to a lecture about surrealism, ended up bored.
Tomorrow morning there's one lecture as well, but I think it's not worth it (it's quite a long way from me).
To me it seems last year was better, this time, I'd say the first lecture was excellent, but the others mere average (not bad, really, but it could have been better - if it were normal school lectures I'd be happy, but here I came for something *special*)
Then I went to my grandma. I suddenly began feeling tired and weak. Perhaps because of yesterday's vaccination.
