Matfie

Yesterday, after the school, we played the game of Matfia (Matfyz Mafia). Meldath learned it from someone at the School of Mathematics and was very eager to present it to us. It somehow resembles the Town of Palermo game, so I was quite curious. It was quite a difficult feat for him to get enough players, but he made it.
We played two games. Some players found it funny, some less so (Kriza didn't seem very excited). But she expressed some of the cons - that it sometimes took a lot of time waiting for the game master's calculations (as the game is quite complicated) and that it seemed quite "machine-like" in some parts - compared to Palermo, there was less psychology and much more game rules.
Compared to Palermo, there is a lot of different role for every player (drawn randomly in the beginning), but roles are not something to roleplay, but rather cards to be played (more or less, some are permanent, but still not in the sense of role playing). Also, the game lacks the teams of Palermo (citizens x mafia) and everyone plays for himself. This even further reduces the psychological aspect of the original game.
Still, I don't think the game is bad. Some roles are charming (the schizofrenic and the deviant). But to remain funny for longer, it would require some improvements. For myself, I'd prefer reintroduction of some of those Palermo elements.
