"Fast forward into trouble"

I've come across an interesting article about the introduction of TV in Bhutan.
The kingdom of Bhutan has been one of the most isolated (and somewhat mysterious) countries in the world. Still, the king has decided to start modernization (though he stresses out that "Gross National Happiness" is the important stuff, not Gross National Product). Is the modernization going to make Bhutanese people more happy?
The article about the TV introduction is written from a view, that the introduction was a negative thing to do. As if "yet another spoiled culture". This is underlined by the most of interviewed members of Bhutanese "intellectuals" (if it can be called that way). Still, some of them contemplate, if it was possible to avoid it (both TV and new trends in general).
Common people seem happy about the change, but their happiness is contrasted with perceived decadence in the society, disruption of traditional values etc. For the author, the plebs is just too stupid to know what's good for them.
Dunno, read it and see for yourself. (and comment on what do you think about the article).
