Matriculation

There was the matriculation of MFF today. Most other departments at the university had already gone through this, we were among the latest ones.
What was it about? We went to Carolinum - the building was nice, something seemed very majestically. No wonder - it's the seat of the rector and of the university management.
We got a stamp in our student sheets and then headed to a great hall. There, we had to wait for some time; after, we were told what to do and soon after that, our professors and other university employees started walking in (their robes were really really pretty :-). Not that there were that many of them - mostly some of our teachers, some of the important people from our department and a prorector; and two pedels. The prorector had something to say (about our prospects), then our dean (about studying in our department), then the vice-dean read our promise.
Music started to play and we began, one by one, coming to the pedel, touching the university scepter, saying "I promise" (I think in the past, students had to memorize and say the promise themselves; this way, the ceremony resembled a factory process too much) and shaking hands with the dean.
When every one finished, the professors left, as we did after them.

No parent, no brother or sister, no grandparent, no lower, no friend at the matriculation? What a lonely promise.
All the courage!

Some friends were present, as there it was the matriculation of all new Math students.
The reason, why relatives were not present, was that it wasn't allowed to invited them...
