- the first longer (emm...) fiction book I've read since a while
- very brief - some 70 pages
- a banal story (reportedly from Hrubin's own life; still, it could have been made more interesting)
- still, it may be considered quite difficult to comprehend; was the story more complicated, it'd be even harder
- poetry form, but in fact it misses the "typical" poetry character
- interesting and somewhat playful language, though the author seems obsessed with death and blood...
- not chronological; yet the feeling is weakened by the fact that before a new part, the current date is written
- overall though it may be cryptic, if one reads thoroughly, there's little space for any speculation; it was even a bit frustrating to me
- the story is from 1930s, but it wasn't written till 1961; there are visions of future decay (i.e. WW2, Hiroshima...) layered between the story line
