Every now and then, I hear people complaining their computer doesn't work. Now sure, a computer is a delicate piece of technology and one can expect it to break down once. Usually just one part fails, so it's possible to just change it, but that may be complicated. But this is not what I wanted to write about.
Rather, I had in my mind the people who complain constantly about their computer - that it's just stupid and so...They can work with a computer enough so that it makes a valuable tool for them, but too little to get any grasp on what is going on inside. And when anything goes wrong (which does frequently, computers are fragile - I mean it in the software sense - even when cared for nicely), it's just "the stupid computer" that is responsible.
Not everyone is an IT specialist, neither am I; my own computer skills are rather modest - but I do a google search when something doesn't work as expected and also try to understand, at least a little, how it really works.
There's been a lot of new technology advances recently (especially with the wide introduction of microelectronics, but also medicaments and a lot of other stuff) and there are still more to come. What may be surprising is that even a great lot of young people is rather suspicious when it comes to technology. People don't understand gadgets they use everyday, not to mention any self-provided maintenance.
Now maybe it's just natural and efficient to push labor division that far; after all, the majority of people even probably don't want to understand inner mechanisms of gadgets. But the world is also becoming more funny - there's always something new to learn, and more and more of that :-)
