The maturita ball

We, the maturants, had to come at already 16.30, still, we didn't have enough time to practice our program. The ball officially started at 19.00.
It took place in Lucerna - a topic for itself. Mentioning traditionally stiffed air is worthless - in the old underground complex, you can't change it. We paid quite a lot of money (look at the catalog, it was from 16.30 till 2.00, we paid for some additional services, which, though not strictly mandatory, were rather impossible to omit - Lucerna sets the pricing that you de facto can't do it, and you get the price) for it, which translated in the price of tickets - still we were told with the size of our school, we didn't really have other possibility -, Lucerna employees behaved unpleasantly and, in some cases, quite unprofessionally - this was the case of the moderator.
A lot of girls had very sophisticated haircuts, nice robes and so on. Boys were boring, as usually ;-) At least they hadn't had that much work. A lot of people took it very seriously, that's probably how it was meant to; still, I didn't, but I take nothing seriously at all nowadays...Still, it didn't hinder me from enjoying it.
On the other hand, as was observed by me and others alike, maturants tend to enjoy it the least, as they have to organize almost everything. One could avoid it, but on the other hand, it's also quite interesting.
What was a pity, I wasn't alright, so I had to moderate myself in a lot of stuff (I didn't have to, but it made me so).
From my family, there was father, sister, grandma; also grandpa - though he just appears there, almost out of nothing, I guess documenting everything, just the way he liked it ;-) Pity, brother didn't want to come.
There were five new classes, and four finishing classes.
I didn't really like the way we were treated by
Program:
  • acrobatics - it was friends of one 6B student; it was impressive, though I feel pity for the little girl there, who, although performing wonderful figures, is most probably going to deform her skeleton by this... (maybe not, but considering what she was doing and how young she was...)
  • step performance, of Lida from 4D and her step group; reeaaaly nice :-)
  • belly dancing, by Aja, Kriza, Laupi, Fela, Buchin and his girlfriend Eliska - certainly impressive, though undoubtedly more practicing would do no harm - but as a lot of people had been ill (heh, not only me), it hadn't been possible
  • the "shared" program, by all classes, choreography mostly by Masha; although there was a lot of doubts before, it impressed, not just by sheer numbers, though that distracted attention from individual mistakes; the spectators were mostly amazed
  • the class program of 6B - somehow a parody on the Spanish corrida and knight culture, it was spectacular and I'd say it hadn't required that much time to practice - bravo :-)
  • the class program of 4C - I'd say it was the best program of the night; those were mostly variations on German dances, but with a lot of allusions and parodies
  • the class program of 4D - there was a dance meaning beehive and a fight against a bad insecticide, that was nice; but then there was some kind of...I don't know, rapping, but I didn't really get it (also because the words were incomprehensible)
  • our class program - first, there was a parody, I'd think not really deep, saying we didn't have any program and then there was a rebel action of a few of us (Bzochi, Janie, Katka, Ondra, Buchin, Meldath, Laupi and me; Kriza should have participated as well, but because of her poor health we hadn't managed to practice with her) actually making the program; apart from that we immediately followed the denial of the program, so it was weird, we also lacked more practicing, so some of us faulted (most significantly, me ;-) :-(
Then there were some other notable actions:
  • most notably, the sash giving ceremony to the first and finishing grades; a lot of photos and stuff like that, you know...; then catching money to bed sheets in order to continue enjoying life till the maturita (and also more importantly, to cover the costs of the terribly expensive renting of Lucerna Music Bar (which was used to continue celebrating the same night); my class was appraised (both positively and negatively by having the biggest sheet ever seen in Lucerna - thanks to Adela :-) ...poor other classes...
  • flower giving and welcoming of guests and "VIPs" - I made my gift very early on to the headmistress of the Posepneho elementary school, where our school rented a part of the building to accomodate 4-year classes - yet I feel pity for others (e.g. Wilvarin, who had to wait for their guest - in this case the vice-headmaster of our very school - for around an hour contrary to the former plan)
  • dance solos with teachers, family members and between students themselves - first the moderator changed the order of teachers' and relatives' solos, so I had hard time to get to my sister at time, then some of us (Kriza, me, I think some others too) weren't able by no means finding their teachers-partners. They weren't in their boxes nor on the dance floor...Oh, bad luck...
  • ball dancing - unfortunately, maturants didn't really have the opportunity, though I managed to dance some five or six times; but maturants mostly had to attend matters of the program; there was the Dance orchestra of Vaclav Zelinka - father told me, this one had actually performed at his maturita ball as well and some players seemed to perform in the orchestra since then ;-)
  • disco dancing - we had the orchestra hired till midnight, so after there was disco music from playback; at least some dancing, though I'd enjoy the ballroom one more
  • follow-up in Lucerna Music Bar - it's a tradition in our school that maturants and some other people from the school (including the former maturants) continue the party there. It's kind of a night club - there was very loud music (others felt the same, not just me), so dancing was quite the only possible thing to do (apart from watching the people dance); I did and enjoyed it, even despite the loud music; still, I hadn't been there before, but I'd expected...some possibilities to chat - you may go to any night club and dance there, but there's just too few possibilities to talk with others, especially those from other classes - you see them every day, but know nothing about them - so this was on my part a bit dissappointing :-( I left around 5 a.m.
  • me, Meldath, Kriza and Lan went to sleep to me; in the morning, I woke up in quite a bad shape, but that's hardly of any surprise considering dancing and doing a lot of other stuff for some 13 hours, all of this while being ill...; but it was worth it.
A lot of people were making a lot of photos, I'll post where to find them once we manage to gather it.
edit: !hola! photos, here they are
