Obtained a degree

I have become a bachelor today, in General Mathematics.

Not feeling anyhow special though :D It was yet another exam (wait - we were wearing weird clothes). By the way, I pretty messed up the exam :) Even though the outcome was eventually the best possible (modulo my bad feeling). It's different, at the exam and when preparing oneself at home... I hate exams.... OK, it's over, keep smiling :-D

Looking forward to the summer. Need rest after all those bachelor years. Almost three years working without break*. Even though the rewards are sweet (but don't try to guess, what I mean).
Nice summer to you as well, dear reader. Perhaps we meet somewhere on the road.

*not true, I got out of Prague for a week a few times...

P.S.
My debt (there were others, but this was especially bugging me and I am particularly ashamed of it):
The following are equivalent (hopefully true now) for R a domain:
  1. R is a hereditary domain.
  2. Every fractional ideal of R is projective (as a R-module)
  3. The semigroup of non-zero fractional ideals of R is a group.
  4. Every non-zero prime ideal of R is invertible.
  5. Every proper non-zero ideal of R is a (finite) product of prime ideals .
  6. R is integrally closed, noetherian, of Krull dimension 1 (i.e. every prime ideal is maximal).

Threads torn

Threads of my life flow peacefully in time. Maybe I'm gradually losing some of them, a veces olvidando, a veces despidiendome, a veces por otras razones. Still, I lost a lot so suddenly, not too long ago...
Clack.. This was one of them - my first ever memory stayed there. I remember the memory vividly. But now, do I really remember it? Does it exist anymore? All it contained has vanished... Maybe, it has never been there, who can say...
And this was just one thread out of the many lost...

My first week in the school

I started studying Math. It's just a weird feeling, to call oneself "a mathematician". OK, I have a long way to go and I understand it (actually, I'll be lucky to get through the first year), but a lot of other people start thinking about me in that way (or, at least, considering it). Welcome, my new identity...
  • Analysis, Linear Algebra: pretty hard and pretty incomprehensible; I'll have to do a lot of work at home
  • Logic: also pretty hard, but it's not a mandatory lecture
  • Physics for mathematicians: will be fun; I like the lecturer, his style
  • Programming: it will be perhaps rather easier, on the other hand we'll have to write programs at home
  • Economics: the lecturer is not very good at lecturing, but the matter is interesting (at least for me)
  • Physical Education: I don't have to swim! I'm going to play floorball.
  • Psychology: I take the courses at the Faculty of Philosophy. Very interesting, though I don't have time to attend all the lectures I'd like. And there'll be probably troubles with getting credits for the Psychology subjects - never mind.
Although a lot of stuff is hard, I like it so far. This week has been one of the best ones in my life, considering the amount of the new stuff I've learned. I love learning :-) That's also the reason why I take somewhat more courses than I'd have to.
Not to mention I've started "working" in Institute of Physics.
In the school, apart from learning, there's the second thing I love - people!! A lot of them -> a lot of talking and talking :-)
All in all, I'm happy, though often pretty exhausted.
Bye, I have to practice Algebra and Analysis.

Enrolment camp for the university

I've officially become a university student. There was a camp for MFF students to enroll. There were 4 different dates, every time it takes 3 days, I went to the Math one of course (though we were together with some informaticians).
  • a lot of bureaucracy to be managed (the formal act of enrolment); they probably want to help new students with that...but, it was very chaotic
  • we slept in tents, it was very cold, it rained almost all the time
  • I liked quite a lot of people (though there was a lot of us, so I didn't have time to talk to most of us); and of course there were some people I'd already known (Lan, Meldath, Ajfelovcicka and some others I'd seen before)
  • we took several different tests - of physical aptitude, an English test, a pseudo-IQ test, a test of secondary school Math (it was ok for me, except for the physical aptitude - I fared badly even for MFF standards :-)
  • there were several lectures to inform us about our future study; while we got quite a lot of information, still I felt a lot of important stuff was missing, I'll have to eventually find out
  • we listened to the Humbuk-Revival band
  • recently I've been very eager to learn something, to learn a lot; the camp lured me even more
  • I received the university index and a few more documents

Maturita

Not sure labelling this post "important". Perhaps "objectively" (i.e. in view of other people) yes. Last few days, I was becoming less and less concerned about the overall outcome. Rather, I just wanted to get rid of it.
We had to gather already at 7.30, all of us classmates (and also 6b class, that does the exam this same week). There was the ceremonial beginning. Meldath, me and Ondra decided to stay there till the afternoon (there were another four before us, in the morning - congratulations to all, especially to Aja and Lukas :-) I spent time repeating some last stuff, looking at maturitas of other people, chatting, eating (there was quite a lot of food for us, so I used it and didn't have to have breakfast nor lunch - I was especially grateful for the sweets :-) Also thanks to people from lower classes, for doing the maturita service for us - I mean bringing food, washing the dishes, brewing coffee...
Then there was our group. Meldath has already written about his feelings. I'll write a little bit about my subjects. Every time, there were 15 minutes for preparation and then 15 minutes of talking (and, eventually, counting). Every four people went one after another, so there were 30 minutes for rest after every subject.
Grades are told after all the members of one group ended. (and there is always one group for the morning and one for the afternoon)
  • Math - I drew sequences and series. I was not entirely sure about it but I thought I could do it. I got three exercises (more common are two). But then, I found out it was trivial! It was one limit, one length of an infinite spiral and one equation. When talking, I made it in 7 minutes. I had to talk about theory for the remaining 8 minutes :-) Afterward, our teacher told me it had been wonderful (or something like that :-)
  • Czech - drama of 20th century; one of my most feared topics. Still, I was able to remember enough stuff and to talk and talk and talk...and I even didn't have enough time to say it all. In the end, I had to say a little about the journalistic style. No problem.
  • English - another feared topic: art and culture. Fortunately, I also got a text on Industrial revolution, so I talked 13 minutes about it and only after that they forced me to say a few words on art. :-)
  • Physics - an easy topic: rigid body mechanics. But, what a shame, I wasn't able to solve the exercise. I even got right the principle (law of conservation of energy), but then I wasn't able to apply it correctly. So I did it somehow in front of the blackboard, with assistance from the teacher. After, talking about mechanics was easy.
  • overall: 1 from Math, 1 from Czech, 1 from English, 2 from Physics
I spent so much time learning for it (a few months a bit and the whole last month quite intensively). And now, it was just a snap like this. It wouldn't be worth it...but now, I'm a master in high school physics and math and during the study I came to know a lot of stuff I hadn't known before. So at least some effect...
Incredibly, I wasn't nervous; I was just...apathetic. It has something to do with me leaving the school. I fear the loneliness. The vacation now, but then at the university, it's said it's not such a place for getting to know people, as the high school was.
I'll have to try harder to stay in touch with people (the high school just made it natural to see a lot of people everyday, now I'll have to actively seek the company of others...). I just mustn't resign. If I was to remain lonely again, I wouldn't survive it. Oh yes, I admit that for me, it's hard to satisfy my necessary levels in both the frequency of contacts and the number of acquainted people, but still.
Thanks to Meldath and Lan for their support during last days :-)
And now, I'm free. A strange feeling, yet my mind somehow welcomes it. No matter that I'll be perhaps going to the job and to internships, it's not binding me at all; not like the school.

The maturita ball

We, the maturants, had to come at already 16.30, still, we didn't have enough time to practice our program. The ball officially started at 19.00.
It took place in Lucerna - a topic for itself. Mentioning traditionally stiffed air is worthless - in the old underground complex, you can't change it. We paid quite a lot of money (look at the catalog, it was from 16.30 till 2.00, we paid for some additional services, which, though not strictly mandatory, were rather impossible to omit - Lucerna sets the pricing that you de facto can't do it, and you get the price) for it, which translated in the price of tickets - still we were told with the size of our school, we didn't really have other possibility -, Lucerna employees behaved unpleasantly and, in some cases, quite unprofessionally - this was the case of the moderator.
A lot of girls had very sophisticated haircuts, nice robes and so on. Boys were boring, as usually ;-) At least they hadn't had that much work. A lot of people took it very seriously, that's probably how it was meant to; still, I didn't, but I take nothing seriously at all nowadays...Still, it didn't hinder me from enjoying it.
On the other hand, as was observed by me and others alike, maturants tend to enjoy it the least, as they have to organize almost everything. One could avoid it, but on the other hand, it's also quite interesting.
What was a pity, I wasn't alright, so I had to moderate myself in a lot of stuff (I didn't have to, but it made me so).
From my family, there was father, sister, grandma; also grandpa - though he just appears there, almost out of nothing, I guess documenting everything, just the way he liked it ;-) Pity, brother didn't want to come.
There were five new classes, and four finishing classes.
I didn't really like the way we were treated by
Program:
  • acrobatics - it was friends of one 6B student; it was impressive, though I feel pity for the little girl there, who, although performing wonderful figures, is most probably going to deform her skeleton by this... (maybe not, but considering what she was doing and how young she was...)
  • step performance, of Lida from 4D and her step group; reeaaaly nice :-)
  • belly dancing, by Aja, Kriza, Laupi, Fela, Buchin and his girlfriend Eliska - certainly impressive, though undoubtedly more practicing would do no harm - but as a lot of people had been ill (heh, not only me), it hadn't been possible
  • the "shared" program, by all classes, choreography mostly by Masha; although there was a lot of doubts before, it impressed, not just by sheer numbers, though that distracted attention from individual mistakes; the spectators were mostly amazed
  • the class program of 6B - somehow a parody on the Spanish corrida and knight culture, it was spectacular and I'd say it hadn't required that much time to practice - bravo :-)
  • the class program of 4C - I'd say it was the best program of the night; those were mostly variations on German dances, but with a lot of allusions and parodies
  • the class program of 4D - there was a dance meaning beehive and a fight against a bad insecticide, that was nice; but then there was some kind of...I don't know, rapping, but I didn't really get it (also because the words were incomprehensible)
  • our class program - first, there was a parody, I'd think not really deep, saying we didn't have any program and then there was a rebel action of a few of us (Bzochi, Janie, Katka, Ondra, Buchin, Meldath, Laupi and me; Kriza should have participated as well, but because of her poor health we hadn't managed to practice with her) actually making the program; apart from that we immediately followed the denial of the program, so it was weird, we also lacked more practicing, so some of us faulted (most significantly, me ;-) :-(
Then there were some other notable actions:
  • most notably, the sash giving ceremony to the first and finishing grades; a lot of photos and stuff like that, you know...; then catching money to bed sheets in order to continue enjoying life till the maturita (and also more importantly, to cover the costs of the terribly expensive renting of Lucerna Music Bar (which was used to continue celebrating the same night); my class was appraised (both positively and negatively by having the biggest sheet ever seen in Lucerna - thanks to Adela :-) ...poor other classes...
  • flower giving and welcoming of guests and "VIPs" - I made my gift very early on to the headmistress of the Posepneho elementary school, where our school rented a part of the building to accomodate 4-year classes - yet I feel pity for others (e.g. Wilvarin, who had to wait for their guest - in this case the vice-headmaster of our very school - for around an hour contrary to the former plan)
  • dance solos with teachers, family members and between students themselves - first the moderator changed the order of teachers' and relatives' solos, so I had hard time to get to my sister at time, then some of us (Kriza, me, I think some others too) weren't able by no means finding their teachers-partners. They weren't in their boxes nor on the dance floor...Oh, bad luck...
  • ball dancing - unfortunately, maturants didn't really have the opportunity, though I managed to dance some five or six times; but maturants mostly had to attend matters of the program; there was the Dance orchestra of Vaclav Zelinka - father told me, this one had actually performed at his maturita ball as well and some players seemed to perform in the orchestra since then ;-)
  • disco dancing - we had the orchestra hired till midnight, so after there was disco music from playback; at least some dancing, though I'd enjoy the ballroom one more
  • follow-up in Lucerna Music Bar - it's a tradition in our school that maturants and some other people from the school (including the former maturants) continue the party there. It's kind of a night club - there was very loud music (others felt the same, not just me), so dancing was quite the only possible thing to do (apart from watching the people dance); I did and enjoyed it, even despite the loud music; still, I hadn't been there before, but I'd expected...some possibilities to chat - you may go to any night club and dance there, but there's just too few possibilities to talk with others, especially those from other classes - you see them every day, but know nothing about them - so this was on my part a bit dissappointing :-( I left around 5 a.m.
  • me, Meldath, Kriza and Lan went to sleep to me; in the morning, I woke up in quite a bad shape, but that's hardly of any surprise considering dancing and doing a lot of other stuff for some 13 hours, all of this while being ill...; but it was worth it.
A lot of people were making a lot of photos, I'll post where to find them once we manage to gather it.
edit: !hola! photos, here they are

Splitting up with Ann

It's over. Is it? I don't know. But who should? I still feel strong emotional bond towards her. But I don't feel like going out with her anymore.
Will she accept to continue being friends? I don't want to lose her (as if I ever had her). Now she's going to vacations with her family. When she returns, what will follow?
Meanwhile I feel a strange sensation back in my head. I miss something. Seems as if I'm addicted to love.

Dating one's friends

Seems as if I started going out with Ann... But this post is going to be rather theoretical.
It's provoked by two Misas (Rakova and Synackova) who were wondering how one can date a classmate one's been going to the same class for 7 years.
Well, either you haven't known the person very well till recently or you realized just recently the person attracts you. I'd say about at least cca 10 of my classmates that I don't really know them, only vaguely.
Misa S. said (when we recently talked about it in a tea room) she behaves differently to people she talks to cause she finds them interesting and differently to those she wants to date. Well, I'm rather different - I behave to all unknown people as if they were interesting (after all I think everyone is somewhat special). Logically I can only date someone who I already know :-)
Of course, if you only care about physical attraction, then Misa's attitude is optimal. Yet I believe that to develop a good relationship (no matter if friendship, partnership or whatever) you must know the person.
Yer even if you know each other, it doesn't mean your relationship will be satisfying.
Today, Ann told me two things that made me think. First, how will our relationship continue, when the first love fascination ends? And second, that we hadn't talked about anything sensible in past few days.
I'm thinking about it and about the possible solutions. I've already told her we should get to know each other more. I must talk to Ann about the other thoughts that happened to me since I'd seen her.
